Brighton Hospital is a National Training Center for Auricular Acupuncture (Acupuncture of the Ear)
Virginia M. June LMSW, CAAC, RT, ADS is a registered trainer through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, (NADA) a nationally recognized and established association. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker and a Certified Advanced Addiction Counselor. She currently serves as the Director of Integrative Therapies at Brighton Hospital and has been conducting quarterly trainings at Brighton Hospital for the past four years. Individuals must make reservations and obtain fees by calling the Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-9SOBER1 (1-877-976-2371) as there is a maximum of 12 per session. Friday night 12-step meetings start at 7:30 pm., so please allow ample time for your session. Note: Brighton Hospital Integrative Therapies is also offering auricular (ear) acupuncture treatments on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Payment and reservations are as above. Treatments are offered in our new Auricular Acupuncture Suite on the lower (garden) level of the Main Hospital Building, convenient to 12 step meeting rooms. The suite offers new over padded, comfortable lounge chairs in a serene setting ideal for shedding stress.
Description of the Acu-Detox Training These three days are the didactic portion of the certification process. It involves lecture, video, discussion and
experiential learning. Participants receive a training manual, sharps container, practice plastic ears, one box of needles and alcohol swabs. After successfully completing the three-day session, it is expected that participants complete the clinical portion of the certification process by giving 40 treatments to individuals who may be friends and/or family. This is documented and submitted to the trainer before the trainer authorizes a certificate to the participant. Participants will have access to the trainer at all times if questions arise. Participants are expected to read, understand and sign the ethics agreement created for ADS practitioners and uphold these standards in all NADA Acu-Detox affairs. Membership to NADA is $65.00, and their website is www.acudetox.com The didactic portion of the training has been approved by MCBAP for 22 CAC credits specific to substance abuse. Once participants receive their Auricular Detoxification Specialist (ADS) certificate, they will be able to give treatments in an array of treatment settings, as long as they are under the supervision of a medical doctor (MD or DO) under the laws of the State of Michigan.
