Brighton Hospital: Drug Detoxification Clinic

Detoxification is the removal of toxic substances from the body. An alcohol or drug detox is required when a person's body becomes physically dependent on alcohol, drugs or certain types of prescription medications. Complete removal of the toxic drug substances from the body through detoxification is necessary to eliminate future addictive cravings. Our state-of-the-art drug detox clinic is one of the country's first freestanding medical detoxification units. Patients in need of detoxification are comfortably withdrawn with use of the latest techniques and medicines. In order to minimize the physical symptoms that occur when the body is deprived of a drug, our detox clinic uses substitute medications and medically monitors each patient.

During detoxification, patients may experience emotional stress as a result of the withdrawal process. Brighton Hospital's highly trained and experienced detoxification clinic offers specialized drug detox counseling and therapy to help diminish the emotional symptoms of withdrawal. In addition, Brighton clinic patients receive 24-hour nursing in a comfortable and nurturing detox environment.  The inpatient alcohol and drug detoxification process prepares a patient to fully engage in the next level of care in their treatment process, usually Inpatient Rehabilitation or Domiciliary Partial Hospitalization.

Brighton's drug detox facility is the second-oldest in the United States and the first to be licensed in Michigan. We mainly see drug detox patients from the Metro Detroit area of Michigan, but many also come from other areas of the U.S. and Canada.  Our detox clinic is maintained on a campus setting, with integrated facilities within walking distance of one another for optimal patient care. Our drug and alcohol treatment programs include detoxification and rehabilitation of meth, marijuana, pot, crack, heroin, cocaine, speed, oxycontin, coke, prescription pain pills, ecstasy, plus alcohol and other chemical dependency addictions.  All drug detox and treatment plans are customized for each individual and may include a 12 step program, drug and alcohol counseling, and follow-up care after detox. At Brighton, we pledge to treat every patient undergoing drug detoxification with compassion, dignity and clinical excellence.
