Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation for Clergy

Like doctors, nurses and others in the helping professions, clergy often have unrealistic expectations of what they can do for others. The pressure can be enormous, putting them at risk for addiction. At Brighton Hospital, we believe that spirituality is a basic premise to rehab, recovery, and of daily living. From this belief we’ve created an innovative rehab program for clergy of all faiths; Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and others who are seeking drug treatment. Our Clergy Rehab Program includes daily spiritual services, lectures and discussions specifically for the rehabilitation needs of clergy seeking recovery. Members of clergy in our rehab program will develop skills to cope with secondary trauma and perfectionism, learn practical methods of self-care and develop techniques for dealing with guilt and shame.

With our innovative Clergy Rehab Program, we are filling a need for previously unmet Christian drug treatment services in the Midwest. While there are drug treatment programs specifically for nuns and priests offered in Michigan and throughout the Midwest, we saw a need for other inter-faith, and non-Catholic drug rehab programs. Our Clergy Rehab Program is currently working with Christian churches, Jewish synagogues and other multi-denominational, inter-faith groups to bring drug treatment to all who seek it, whether clergy or congregants.
