The Brighton Women's Halfway House: A Sober, Transitional Housing Option for Women Living in Recovery

Nearly half of all rehab patients at Brighton Hospital are women. Those who graduate from our rehabilitation and treatment programs face the obstacle of finding a sober, transitional housing option that will help them solidify the gains made in women's rehab and recovery before they return to their previous home environment. A women's halfway house, therefore, is often the final step in treatment.

To address the need for women's sober transitional living, Brighton Hospital has opened a 16-bed women’s halfway house, also known as a women's rehab house or women's transitional housing, right on its campus. Because a halfway house is highly recommended for recovering women who do not a have a sober living environment to immediately return to, our recovery goals included this transitional living option to assure that patients have the structured environment needed to strengthen their recovery systems. During their stay at the women’s halfway house, patients continue to have access to programs and services that were available to them during rehab, on an outpatient basis. And although patients are more independent while in transitional housing, they still benefit from daily educational classes, weekly individual and group therapy sessions, volunteer service opportunities, job skills training, an array of on-site 12-step programs, and access to our nationally recognized addiction specialists, physicians, therapists and nurses.

Patients staying at Brighton’s professionally managed halfway house feel safe and comfortable with fellow women rehab patients and staff members. In addition, children are allowed to stay with their mothers at the halfway house during this critical recovery period as we believe that this additional support leads to a more successful recovery. The transitional, sober living option provided by the women’s halfway house is among the many exciting opportunities to build recovery and fight relapse.
