"I knew I had a problem with alcoholism. I was constantly drunk and
what they call a functioning alcoholic. I also had physical and mental
problems and suffered from depression. So I called Brighton Hospital and
asked for help. Now I'm greatly improved and a recovered alcoholic."
"The staff took interest in me and in helping my situation. They told
me I could make it if I wanted to — if a patient is willing to do the
work, the staff is willing to help. After becoming sober I decided to help
people the way the Brighton Hospital staff helped me. I became a volunteer
and assist the aftercare counselors."
Effective and affordable alcoholism treatment is what
you'll receive at Brighton Hospital. Many addicts have come from all over
the world and left with their lives completely transformed in a way that
they never thought possible. Larry mentioned that the staff, "took interest in me and helping my situation".
It's a familiar situation for many of them. Your recovery is guided and
monitored by a staff of licensed and expertly trained counselors and
therapists some of whom, are themselves, in
alcoholism addiction recovery. All of our experience and knowledge with
the alcoholism is required with every patient because alcohol withdrawal differs greatly from most drugs because it can
be fatal. For instance, while it's possible for heroin addicts to die from other
health problems made worse by the strain of withdrawal, an otherwise
healthy alcoholic can die from the direct effects of withdrawal, if it is
not properly managed. Heavy alcohol use reduces the production
of GABA, which is a neuroinhibitor.
An abrupt stop of alcohol consumption can induce a condition where neither
alcohol nor GABA exists in the system in adequate quantities, causing
uncontrolled firing of the synapses. This causes hallucinations, shakes,
convulsions, seizures, and possible heart failure. All possible withdrawal
issues can be safely controlled and mediated in our medically supervised detox center. In view of this, extreme caution
and diligence in your care are definitely an ongoing concern at Brighton
Hospital.
