Responsibilities and Competencies
Assessment
- Completes and/or reviews, as appropriate, patients? history with regard to biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge planning needs using knowledge of ASAM criteria.
Uses critical thinking skills and problem solving ability on a routine bases to facilitate safe and efficient operations on the patient care unit.
Planning
- Identifies and prioritized needs based on assessment.
- Initiates a written plan of care by developing/choosing standards of care, defining interventions and developing patient outcomes.
- At time of admission, collaborates with other caregivers to begin planning for appropriate discharge or transfer to appropriate level of care.
Implementation
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize and process medical orders according to patient needs, physician requests and Hospital policy/procedure.
- Implements interventions defined in plan of care.
- Coordinates patient’s care to assure procedures, treatments, transfers to other units, and/or referrals are completed in a timely manner, encompassing standards of clinical nursing practice and Brighton Hospital policies.
- Completes documentation in a timely manner and reflects the response to interventions, reassessment, revisions and changes in the plan as indicated.
- Consistently performs nursing skills according to standards of clinical nursing practice, commencing with the assign unit and per Brighton Hospital policy and procedures.
Evaluation
- Reviews and evaluates effectiveness of interventions toward patient outcomes.
- Attends, participates and provides input to Treatment Team, and Treatment Planning meetings as required.
Leadership Skills
- Guides Patient Care Technician(s) and Unit clerk(s) in the provision of care for assigned patients.
- Orientates and/or trains new personnel as required.
Customer Relations/Interpersonal Skills
- Acts courteously toward patients, visitors and co-workers.
- Responds to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers in a timely manner.
- Treats patients, visitors and co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.
Professional Deelopment
- Attends required in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
- Maintains a current level of knowledge regarding the nursing field.
- Participates in staff meetings, department QI activities, peer review and voluntary committees.
Physical Requirements
- Incumbent must have the physical ability, with or without accommodation, to finger, grasp, kneel, lift up to 20 pounds.
- Incumbent must have the sensory and communicative skills, with or without accommodation, to feel, hear, see and speak.
- Incumbent will be exposed to inside environmental conditions.
Safety
- Maintains a safe and clean environment.
- Complies with all infection control and safety policies/procedures.
Other
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing (BSN or RN).
- Registered or licensed by the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of two (2) years work experience as a BSN or RN.
- Must be certified, or become certified within ninety (90) days of employment, in physical management, CPR, restraints and venipuncture.
- Required registration/licensure and certifications must be kept current.
