Meet Our Substance Abuse Program Staff: Rickie Hardaway, M.D.
Staff Physician
Medical School: Wayne State School of Medicine
Residency: Wayne State University/Children's Hospital of Michigan
Dr. Hardaway works as a part-time physician with Brighton Hospital, joining the team in 2004. He is in private practice as Medical Director at Alpha/Omega Medical Center. Dr. Hardaway is trained in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and completed a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Wayne State University.
With professionals like Dr. Hardaway and the rest of the team involved with Brighton's substance abuse services, we are mending lives. Our multidisciplinary team of substance abuse program experts know that chemical dependency is a disease – not a weakness. We pledge to treat every patient with compassion, dignity and clinical excellence, because this is how you deserve to be treated. We know this because many of our staff are also in recovery, or are adult children of alcoholics. Approximately one-half of Brighton's employees came to us first for our services to overcome substance abuse before joining our program staff. When it comes to recognizing drug and alcohol abuse in his patients, "It's hard to fool me", says Dr. Menestrina, M.D., FASAM, Director of the Detox Center. "I've been there, I can relate."
All associates with Brighton's substance abuse program and services receive annual service excellence training. This is reflected by patient satisfaction scores exceeding 90 percent. Plus, having established America's first Fellowship in Addiction Medicine in a clinical setting, we lead the nation in medical education for a variety of substance abuse programs. In addition, we help expand the understanding and knowledge of substance abuse and recovery in our clinics through regular rotations of nursing, medical and social work students.
